Mining Tour

A decade of digging Deep into Modern Mining, Mineral Exploration, Geology, and Environmental Connections

The Canadian Ecology Centre invites you to participate in the 2023 Mineral Resources and Mining Education Tours.

These tours are open to educators at the elementary and secondary level, post secondary and other educational institutions and individuals from companies/organizations and/or communities with links to mining and mineral resources.

A $50 application fee is required for each tour. All other costs are subsidized. The application fee will be reimbursed to any participants who are either not accepted into a tour OR at the conclusion of full participation in one of the mining tours (as this fee is being sponsored). Participants who are accepted into a tour and then cancel their registration will not be refunded the application fee.

MINERAL RESOURCE and MINING TOUR

2023 TOUR CANCELLED

Join us in Sudbury for a 2 day program that focuses on providing a foundation and understanding of Earth science and mineral resources. Learn the fundamentals of mineral and rock identification and the early phases of the mine life cycle. Visit local sites of interest to develop an understanding of the geology of the area as well as important re-greening efforts. The tour will include a day visit to an underground mine and processing site in the Sudbury area, as well as a tour/presentation at Dynamic Earth, and geology/re-greening field tours.

This tour is open to educators at the elementary and secondary level, post secondary and other educational institutions and individuals from companies/organizations and/or communities with links to mining and mineral resources.

Space is limited with priority given to Greater Sudbury area participants up until May 15. Participants are expected and must be able to attend BOTH days of the tour. If you are unable to attend for the full duration of the tour, please do not register so that others can participate.

This tour is offered during the DAY ONLY on both Monday August 21st and Tuesday August 22nd, 2023. The start/end times of each day may vary and will be confirmed closer to the tour start date, as well as the starting locations. Anticipated end times daily are between 4-5pm, with a start time on Monday around 9am and Tuesday around 7:30am

Participants will be provided with transportation during the day to the various tour sites, but are required to get themselves to the daily “mustering” location.

Life in a Mining Camp

Join us in northwestern Ontario for a snapshot into the life of an employee at Impala Canada’s, Lac Des Iles Palladium Mine. Spend two days on the mine site, where you will have the opportunity to meet industry professionals, tour the underground operation, tour the mill where the ore is processed, and visit the open pit and other aspects of the surface operations.

Tour limited to 10 participants, participants are expected to attend for the full duration of the tour and priority is given to Thunder Bay area educators (up until May 15th).

Tour starts Sunday July 30th in Thunder Bay at Terry Fox Monument on Hwy 11/17 at approximately 5pm, you will drive to the mine from there. The tour CONCLUDES on Tuesday August 1st, time TBD.

Participants are responsible for providing their own transportation to and from Thunder Bay.

Single accommodations provided on Sunday and Monday night.

Meals provided starting with supper on Sunday and ending with breakfast on Tuesday.

* Priority is given to educators in school boards in the Thunder Bay and surrounding area up until May 15th. After this time, any available remaining spots will be offered to those outside the area based on registration date received.
